Iftikhar Ahmed scored a remarkable half-century against Peshawar Zalmi on Sunday to set a target of 185 runs in the showcase match in Quetta.
Veteran right-arm fast bowler Wahab Riaz got Zalmi off to a flying start by dismissing Ahsan Ali and Umar Akmal in the second over, but Quetta bounced back brilliantly in the last half of the innings to set up a huge score.
Iftikhar Ahmed hit Wahab Riaz for six maximum sixes in the final over of the innings to ensure that Quetta finished with a strong total. Right-handed batsman Iftikhar remained unbeaten on 94 runs off 50 balls.
On the other hand, middle-order batsman Khushdil Shah scored 36 runs off 24 balls, and opener Abdul Wahid Bengalzai scored 28 runs off 19 balls. Sadly, Quetta’s captain Sarfaraz Ahmed could only score four runs and was dismissed by Aamer Jamal. Meanwhile, Wahab Riaz took three wickets but conceded 47 runs to the opposition in his four overs.
