The new Hum TV drama serial Yunhi is produced by Momina Duraid. It is directed by Ehtishaamuddin and written by Sarwat Nazir. Maya Ali and Bilal Ashraf play the lead roles for the first time and the first episode was well received by viewers. People liked the idea of the TV show Yunhi, but there was one part that upset some fans because of its controversial words. It’s worth mentioning that Maya Ali and Bilal Ashraf have previously been in TV dramas and modeling photoshoots together.
In one scene of the drama, Yunhi, Bilal Ashraf (Dawood) goes to the airport to pick up his uncle and daughter Maya Ali (Kim). In the scene, Kim says to her father about Dawood, “I think he’s a terrorist,” because he was wearing traditional Muslim clothing, including a prayer cap and shalwar kameez.
The scene was met with negative reactions from the people of Pakistan. Fans expressed that the statement was insulting to those who cherish wearing shalwar kameez, which is a widely recognized national dress. Many found the scene to be hurtful and felt that the shalwar kameez is a source of pride for many Pakistani men.
A young woman wrote, “This is an utter disgrace.” FB user Saqib stated, “If it were an Indian film, I could grasp the narrative, but it’s astonishing that a Pakistani production is showcasing such a disrespectful depiction.” Condemn ridicule of Islam, what kind of example are we setting for future generations? After this portrayal, how will our children view wearing traditional attire like shalwar kameez and cap? Disgraceful, Hum TV.
